Saudi Arabia Airport Attack: Two Killed, Eight Injured in Dammam Strike
Saudi Arabia’s Dammam airport attack has left two people dead, including an Indian resident, and eight injured. The incident follows deadly strikes on Riyadh airport and a drone interception near the Shaybah oilfield.
In a statement, GACA confirmed the fatalities and injuries following the attack on the airport in the eastern Saudi city of Dammam. The incident comes amid a series of assaults on Saudi infrastructure as the conflict intensifies between Houthi forces and the Saudi-backed internationally recognised Yemeni government.
Earlier on Thursday, two people were killed after Saudi air defences intercepted a drone attempting to strike a facility at Saudi Aramco’s Shaybah oilfield, according to the Ministry of Energy.
The latest incident follows a series of attacks targeting major Saudi airports. Last week, the kingdom reported that a projectile strike on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport on October 11 killed one person and injured 11. On October 10, the civil aviation authority reported a separate attack on the same airport that claimed the lives of 12 people and injured more than 300.
The escalating attacks have also prompted security measures by the United States. On Wednesday, the US State Department ordered diplomats and their family members to depart from its missions in Saudi Arabia amid continuing Houthi attacks. US officials told Reuters that plans were also underway to withdraw family members from a number of other US missions across the region.
The US embassy in Riyadh issued a security alert on Wednesday warning of the possibility of further Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia.
With casualties reported at King Fahd International Airport and the Shaybah oilfield, the latest incidents add to a growing series of attacks on critical Saudi infrastructure and come as security concerns prompt further precautions by US diplomatic missions in the region.
